Trump Administration Announces Trade Deal with Vietnam
In a Truth Social post this morning, President Trump said that the administration has reached a trade deal with Vietnam in which goods from Vietnam to the US will be subject to a 20% tariff and up to 40% for those goods transshipped to the US, while US exports to Vietnam will receive zero tariffs.
“In return, Vietnam will do something that they have never done before, give the United States of America TOTAL ACCESS to their markets for trade. In other words, they will ‘OPEN THEIR MARKET TO THE UNITED STATES,’ meaning that we will be able to sell our product into Vietnam at ZERO tariff. It is my opinion that the SUV or, as it is sometimes referred to, Large Engine Vehicle, which does so well in the United States, will be a wonderful addition to the various product lines within Vietnam,” President Trump said.
Vietnam faced a 46% rate under the country-specific tariffs that were announced April 2nd that took effect on April 9th before they were suspended the following day.
Please note that, at this time, we are pending further guidance from US Customs as to how and when this will take effect.
RIM logistics, ltd. will track this development and provide information, as well as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) guidance, as soon as it becomes available. Please reach out to your RIM representative if you have any further questions.
