The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Expired 9/30

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) expired on September 30th, 2025. As of October 3rd, 2025, no official extension or renewal has been enacted by the US Congress, leaving the future of duty-free trade for eligible African nations uncertain.

With the expiration, exports from eligible sub-Saharan African countries to the US are now subject to standard tariffs under the “Most-Favored-Nation” schedule.

While a short-term extension is still possible, perhaps through a government funding bill, it is not guaranteed. A one-year extension has been suggested. While there are reports of a possible one-year extension, no formal legislation has been enacted. CBP has not received confirmation, and Congressional approval is still required.
