Fuel Updates

Expect high demand and tight capacity today and tomorrow as we come out of the holiday weekend, though conditions should ease by next week. Long-haul freight (over 800 miles) typically sees an 8–10% increase in September compared to summer levels, driven in part by retailers restocking for the holiday season.

Reefer Freight:

  • We are seeing extremely high outbound density in California, Illinois, and
    Pennsylvania.
  • The post-Labor Day holiday also coincides with the harvest of crops like apples, potatoes, and grain in the Midwest, which increases demand for refrigerated and dry van freight out of these regions.

Van Freight:

  • We are seeing extremely high outbound density in California, Illinois, and Texas.
  • The days immediately following the holiday typically see a spike in theft, as trucks sit unattended.

Flatbed Freight:

  • We are seeing extremely high outbound density in Alabama, Georgia, and Texas.
  • Shorter daylight hours begin to impact the travel window for oversized shipments, which are often restricted from traveling at night.

We hope you have a fantastic week! If you need any assistance or have any questions, please reach out to your RIM Representative or to our Domestic Team at RIMDomestic@rimlogistics.com.
