June 4th, 2025 UPDATE | President Trump Announces 50% Tariffs for Steel and Aluminum, Effective June 4th
The 50% tariffs for steel and aluminum imports take effect at 12:01 AM EDT on June 4th.
President Trump issued a proclamation yesterday evening ensuring that tariffs on aluminum and steel imports will increase from 25% ad valorem to 50% ad valorem, effective at 12:01 AM EDT on June 4th.
However, UK steel and aluminum imports will remain subject to the 25% tariff rate through July 9th, at which time the Commerce Secretary may adjust the applicable duty rates — potentially increasing them to 50% — if he determines that the UK has not complied with relevant aspects of the US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal (EPD) of May 8th, 2025.
