West Coast Labor Update – June 6th, 2023
Sporadic terminal disruptions in the Long Beach/Los Angeles port complexes are continuing and are expected to continue throughout the week. Please be advised that we expect delays to occur and that both local and IPI cargo will continue to be impacted.
Additionally, the ILWU in Canada put out a Strike Vote Notice bulletin on June 5th, asking the members to conduct a strike vote on June 9th and 10th. Should the members vote to strike, the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert could be directly impacted later this month. ILWU Canada labor appears to be slowing down work and cargo movement is already being impacted.
Canadian Government mediation ended with no result on May 30th. As a part of the process, both parties agree that no lockout or strike can occur for twenty-one (21) days. On June 21st, ILWU Canada must formally give a seventy-two (72) hour strike notice. This means that the earliest that ILWU Canada can strike is June 24th.
RIM logistics, ltd. will continue to closely monitor the situation and keep you advised of any updates as they become known. Please contact your RIM representative should you have any questions or need additional information.
