Fuel Updates

Fuel is at $3.754 for the week, which is down from $3.800 the previous week.

For the first time in nearly three (3) years, large truckload carriers are cautiously adding capacity, signaling early signs of recovery in the freight market. With Labor Day coming up, prepare for tighter capacity and higher offers. Try to ship the week prior or after.

The top five (5) states for theft are California, Tennessee, Texas, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Miscellaneous cargo is ranked the highest, followed by food and beverages, clothing and shoes, home and garden, electronics, metals, building, cash, auto and parts, and tobacco.

Reefer Freight:

  • The current national spot average is $2.36 per mile.
  • The load-to-truck ratio is down 19%.
  • Spot rates have decreased by .5%.
  • Keep an eye on the Midwest—harvest season is just a few weeks away, and many drivers will park to work directly with farmers.

Van Freight:

  • The current national spot average is $2.02 per mile.
  • The load-to-truck ratio is down 18%.
  • Spot rates have increased by 2%.
  • Holiday shipping is already underway, with Q4 right around the corner.

Flatbed Freight:

  • The current national spot average is $2.51 per mile.
  • The load-to-truck ratio is down 15%.
  • Spot rates have decreased by .5%.
  • Construction season still in effect.
