President Trump Announces Oct. 1st Tariffs for Imports of Pharmaceuticals, Furniture, and Heavy Trucks

On Thursday night, September 25th, President Trump posted on Truth Social that he would impose tariffs on imports of pharmaceuticals, furniture, and heavy trucks, effective October 1st.

In the announcement, President Trump stated that he will impose a 100% tariff on branded and patented pharmaceuticals entering the United States, unless the company is actively “building their pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in America.” He clarified that “building” includes projects that are either “breaking ground” or “under construction,” which would exempt those products from the tariff.

President Trump also stated that he will impose a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related products, along with an additional 30% tariff on upholstered furniture on October 1st, citing what he described as a “flooding” of the US market by these imports.

Additionally, beginning October 1st, President Trump announced a 25% tariff on imports of heavy trucks to protect US manufacturers such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, and Freightliner. He emphasized that safeguarding the future of the US trucking industry is essential for national security.
