The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) provided formal notice this afternoon to the ILWU-Canada, advising that they will lockout all Long Shoremen beginning on May 30th, 2019. This action is in response to the ILWU-Canada’s intent to strike notice.
Based on our experience, it is very possible that the Canadian government will force all parties back to work; however, this is a fluid situation and many things can change over the next 48 hours.
We will keep you closely advised of any changes in this situation. We are reviewing all shipments that could be impacted by this action. In the meantime, we ask that you remain patient with this process. Our experience with both the West and East Coast ILWU tells us we need to be prepared to pivot quickly. This news is just breaking and we will have more guidance and updates in the near future.
