Container Ship YM Mobility Explosion

We would like to inform you of an incident that took place on August 9th at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, one of the world’s busiest ports. An explosion occurred on the container ship YM Mobility, operated by Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp., at approximately 1:40 PM. The vessel was docked at the Beilun terminal when the incident happened.

Key details include the following:

  1. The explosion occurred among containers near the bow of the Liberia-flagged vessel, scattering cargo and producing a plume of black smoke.
  2. The ship was transporting hazardous goods.
  3. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported and all crew members and dockworkers are safe.
  4. Some nearby company offices experienced damage from the shockwaves, including broken windows and minor structural impacts.

We can confirm that there were no RIM shipments on this vessel and will continue to monitor the situation closely to determine if there will be any future impact on the terminal.

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. has stated that immediate fire-fighting measures were taken, the fire is now under control, and all personnel on the ship have been safely evacuated.
